The Heroes of Character program was created by the National Liberty Museum, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to encourage and inspire young people – and adults – to live by core values, like honesty, integrity, respect, responsibility, and generosity, and to demonstrate their values every day.
Whether you live in the U.S. or anywhere else in the world, whether you're 8 or 88 years old, you can find a lot of ways to be a hero and make a difference in your village, town or city.

The Corporation for National and Community Service connects Americans of all ages and backgrounds with opportunities to give back to their communities and their nation. The Corporation offers a lot of ways adults and kids can volunteer.
www.DoSomething.org is geared toward teens and is an online hub for young people to go and learn about causes and projects they can do in their community.
National Service-Learning Clearinghouse gives information on all kinds of school-based and community-based programs for kindergarten through higher education.
Optimist Club has local chapters all over the world where adults and young people can get involved and volunteer.
Serve.gov is the largest network of volunteer opportunities ever created. Founded by President Bush and currently run by the Obama administration, this national site helps young people and adults find ways to volunteer and make a difference. The site offers volunteer possibilities at a number of federal organizations, including the Corporation for National Service, AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, Learn and Serve America, America Reads, and USA Freedom Corps.
Youth Service America works to improve communities by increasing the number and diversity of young people serving in important roles. YSA partners with thousands of organizations in more than 100 countries to expand the youth service movement with families, communities, schools, corporations and governments.
